Back in 2020, Cara Delevingne offered some vocals for the title track of Fiona Apple's blockbuster album Fetch The Bolt Cutters, including a meow. Now, the reclusive singer-songwriter repaid the favor by co-writing a song on Delevingne's debut album, which is coming this summer via Warner.
Yesterday (May 29), the actress and model released "I Forgot" and "Out Of My Head," her debut singles (aside from a track for the Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planet soundtrack in 2017). They were co-produced by Delevingne with BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Charli XCX).
According to Rolling Stone, Apple cowrote a song called "Need It," which the magazine dubs "club-ready." About the collaboration, Delevingne said:
We were writing things down on Post-it notes and sending them to each other, which is really funny, because we could have just been texting these lyrics. I wanted to do a song that honored her — honored her impact for me as a person and as an artist. I think without the experience of going in the studio with her, I’d never have felt like I could be myself, a bit like a kid, and not have to act like I know what I’m doing or perform or change myself.
Along with her contribution to Fetch The Bolt Cutters, she also cowrote Dijon's "Yamahan" from last year's beloved Baby. "Music was always that dream I had, but never believed I would get the opportunity to create," Delevingne says of her music debut. "Writing 'I Forgot' felt like a rebirth for me and 'Out Of My Head' was like going to therapy. Everything has felt like it’s led up to this point and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it."
We still don't yet know the album title, but more information seems imminent. The songs come with a music video directed by Jessica Lee Gagné. Watch below.
