Afroman Sues Deputy After Winning “Lemon Pound Cake” Case

2:27 PM EDT on July 29, 2026

In March, Afroman won the defamation case over his viral music videos mocking the Ohio cops who raided his home under suspicion of drugs and kidnapping and found nothing. Now, he's suing them.

In a lawsuit filed Monday (July 27), the Grammy-nominated rapper/singer claims Sgt. Brian Newland, a former detective with the Adams County Sheriff's Office, defamed him with the lawsuit, as well as invaded his privacy and cost him tens of thousands of dollars in attorney's fees. He also says the officers disconnected his surveillance footage and stole some of his money, though the police claim it was a miscount.

He announced the lawsuit on Instagram, writing:

HAPPY OFFICIAL BIRTHDAY TO ME
And for my birthday present
I’m suing the police officer who stole my $400, then had the audacity to sue me for 1,500,000 dollars
