John Douglas, longtime guitarist for Scottish indie rock band Trashcan Sinatras, has passed away. The band shared the news in a social media post today, writing that Douglas passed away peacefully on Monday "after a brief illness." Douglas was 63.
Trashcan Sinatras started in Irvine, Scotland in 1986, and Douglas and fellow guitarist Paul Livingston joined up a year later. The band quickly signed with the indie label Go! Discs and developed a shimmering, harmony-heavy sound. Their first three albums all got strong reviews and made the UK charts, and they never broke up or stopped putting out music. Douglas also collaborated with his wife Eddi Reader and played in her band, and he released a self-titled solo album in 2023. Just last week, Trashcan Sinatras released their new album Ever The Optimist.
