Taylor Swift Gets Her Songs Muted On Donald Trump’s Troll TikToks

The TikTok account Team Trump was launched by Donald Trump's campaign in late July 2024 and has used audio of Taylor Swift tracks, among other popular songs, since at least last year. Now Swift's team appears to have finally taken action.

Last week the account posted an AI-looking clip of Donald and Melania Trump watching fireworks with audio of the Folklore track “August." The text on the video read, “Mood because it’s August and Donald Trump is your president.” The caption was even trollier: “I’m sure @Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song!” with the hashtags #taylorswift, #maga, and #august.

She was not excited, and on Friday the audio was muted.

Team Trump subsequently used audio from a live version of “Red” in a post parodying the pop star’s album of the same name. “Did you know Taylor Swift wrote a whole album about the color of the Republican Party,” read the text over a picture of the president. “Red (Donald Trump’s Version).” The caption put a Trump-themed spin on Swift songs from her Red album, like “Everything Has Changed (At Our Southern Border).”

That sound was then removed, too.

In fact, so far this weekend, audio from at least 10 Swift songs has been removed from posts by Team Trump and The White House's account.

Trump and Swift have had a contentious relationship for years. In August 2024, Trump shared AI-generated images falsely suggesting that Swift had endorsed him for president. The following month, on his social media platform Truth Social, he posted “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” after Swift said she planned to vote for Kamala Harris for US president.

Swift isn't the only popular artist Team Trump has been trolling. Last month, the White House's TikTok and Instagram accounts, the latter in a collaboration with @POTUS, used Noah Kahan's The Great Divide song "American Cars" to soundtrack a video of the president visiting a General Motors facility in Michigan. The folk-pop star commented on that Instagram, "Would never approve of my music being used in support of you or this administration." The audio was then removed from both the Instagram and TikTok posts.

The Team Trump TikTok responded by overlaying a screengrab of Kahan's comment on a video of Trump along with the text "And for that reason we will be posting Noah Kahan Music." The audio is an unauthorized/user-uploaded clip of Kahan's "Orbiter," and currently it's still up.
