Philly's prolific TAGABOW are back. Last year's LOTTO made #8 on our list of the 50 best albums of the year, and #3 on our list of the 10 best shoegaze records of the year. Now, they're announcing a new mixtape called KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II, which has 29 tracks and a ton of guests, including RXKNephew, Greg Mendez, Spirit Of The Beehive, Hotline TNT, Full Body 2, DJ Manny, Total Wife, LUCY (Cooper B. Handy), and more.
"When I was growing up one of the best ways to listen to music was to grab a thin jewel case mixtape CD from a convenience store, a thrown together fully unlicensed quilt of all your favorite artists by some local guy producing the beats, or mixing and matching vocal stems to proper tempos," Doug Dulgarian says, continuing:
As you grabbed whatever you needed from the store, five dollars was never too much for like an hour's worth of music. The art on the front was like firework marketing. "Graphic design is my passion" ass mfs. I miss that spirit sometimes but u can still find it on SoundCloud and YouTube and shit.
Sometimes the pairings of artists were incredible, sometimes they were awful. Sometimes I still think that — like wow this vocal would go so good over this completely different song. The difference is now I just go and do it. Hearing the dj interpret the parts really opened up a lot of mental doors for me as an impressionable young guy. The word mixtape initially meant a homespun tape that you typically listened to yourself or gave to somebody else. For me who was born later, it meant mashups of all my favorite artists by local DJs. And so that’s what I did with this one, mashups of all my favorite artists. Shoutout DJ WHITEOWL, RIP.
