When Queens Of The Stone Age announced their upcoming album Perfecth last month, one item on the tracklist immediately stood out. That's when we learned of the existence of a QOTSA song called "Where The Goth Girls At?" The mind reeled with possibilities. Well, that song is here now, and Josh Homme would indeed like to know where the goth girls are at. Drake can relate.
Perfecth drops next month — on the day before Halloween, in fact — and Queens Of The Stone Age have already shared the early singles "Easy Street" and "Insignificant Other." The song is a crunchy, minimal rocker, and frontman Josh Homme says it's inspired by his youth in a Palm Desert suburb: "Watching the goth girls working the counter at JCPenney and giving goth makeovers to the old ladies, that’s when I knew the only place I want to be is where the goth girls at. Teenage love, ain’t it grand?" Singing in his salacious falsetto, Homme lays out the fantasies of his youth: "Never felt so alive as the day I almost died/ If you only knew what only the goth girls do."
I am delighted to report that there's a video. Christopher Gruse and the Armed frontman Tony Wolski already directed QOTSA's very fun "Easy Street" video, and they're also responsible for the "Where The Goth Girls At?" clip. Homme plays a scientist in what appears to be an Eastern Bloc country that faces an immediate theat: A goth baddie making out with people and causing a zombie plague. Singer and actor Lou Lou Safran, of Annabelle: Creation fame, plays the titular goth girl, and the cast also includes comedian and Peacemaker star Steve Agee. Check it out below.
