Instrumental New York power trio Psychic Paramount's noisy, frenetic, groove-heavy sophomore album II might remind you of This Heat!, Battles, full-force Tortoise, a more shadowy Trans Am, or a less metal Fucking Champs. Or, hey, maybe that last Psychic Paramount album, 2005's Gamelan Into The Mink Supernatural. I think about all of the above as well as diving headfirst into the "RIYL Twisted Village and the Sun City Girls" part of the psych-rock vinyl-only section of the Princeton Record Exchange. Things lock-in with third track, "RW," an interestingly taut response to "DDB," the shaggier song it follows. Try figuring out what the "RW" stands for:
The tracklist:
01 "Intro/Sp"
02 "DDB"
03 "RW"
04 "N5'
05 "N6"
06 "Isolated"
07 "N5 Coda"
II is out 2/22 via No Quarter. To get a better sense of how it develops, download the aforementioned "DDB," which you'll find with a piece on the band at the Village Voice.
