Friko impressed a lot of us with their 2024 debut album Where we’ve been, Where we go from here. Today they announce the follow-up, which is even better. I'm excited for you all to hear Something Worth Waiting For when it drops in April — it really is worth waiting for — but in the meantime you can check out lead single "Seven Degrees."
The young Chicago rockers worked with esteemed producer John Congleton on the new LP. "On our first record we were much more involved in the technical aspect of everything, but this time John made it clear that he wanted us to just come in and do our thing," drummer Bailey Minzenberger says. "I think that allowed us to let go in a way that we never had before, and because of that we captured something very raw."
"Seven Degrees" fits that description. It's a power ballad worthy of early Bowie, sung with dramatic flair by Niko Kapetan. Those of you who miss prime Arcade Fire or Bright Eyes might also find it of interest. "For a long time I thought the saying was 'seven degrees of separation' and not 'six,'" he says. "There’s a lightness to that song but really it’s about connection, and trying to stay close to the people you care about."
