"Honeybee"'s the beautiful, brief opener on Mountain Man's new Sun Dog EP. The song should be familiar to fans of the band, but I love it and the collection's feeling of quiet transience: The five-song 10" offers 12 minutes of stripped-down "alternative recordings" of songs you'll find on the excellent Made The Harbor LP.The Vermont trio's meditative backwoods a cappella focuses on themes of the natural world -- those bees, a dog, animal tracks, wings, a chickadee -- but you also hear their own sweat and spilt milk. It's like joining them on their backporch.
The tracklist:
A1 "Honeybee"
A2 "Dog Song"
A3 "Animal Tracks"
B1 "Mouth Wings"
B2 "Soft Skin"
